It feels like we have been at COSMOS for at least one million years by now. We've learned so much, met so many people, and played too many games in just 72 hours. The schedule here has been more packed than school, and we barely have any time to slow down and rest. We almost feel like a computer, just completing task after task. But the reality is that it has only been 3 days, and we still have a long road ahead of us.
I realize that the title of this blog doesn't seem fitting right now, so I'll explain it one by one. Let's start off with Parallel. This represents the Discovery Lecture we had yesterday, by Dr. Jeanne Ferrante. It was actually somewhat interesting, and I learned some new things about the future of computers. This was how we started off Tuesday.
Next, I have a term labeled PSoC (pronounced P-Sock). This is just an abbreviation for Programmable System on Chip. It's not really as complicated as it sounds. All it is that we program a system which happens to be on a chip. In return, we can make the LEDs flash and volt monitor display the voltage. It's pretty cool. This is what I have been working on for the past two days, and I have successfully completed Labs 1 and 2. We learn a lot from this, and it is truly the hands-on concept.
This is what we have been learning for the past 2-3 days. Of course, between and after classes, it is a whole different story. The food here has been much better than expected. I think everyone loves the Pizza, and the other food is changing everyday. Today, the breakfast and dinner were okay, but the lunch was very good.
Last night, I played some games of Chess with my roommates and finished up my 3 page paper/report on Embedded Computer Systems in Automobile. That was a huge relief and that is why I could actually get some sleep. The showers have been pretty good, and my floor does not experience any "cold shower syndrome."
Finally, the last word I have up there is Parrots. Now, I know that all of you are wondering how Parrots relate to computers and COSMOS. But, in a very weird way, they do. Today, one of the assistnats, Arash, brought his Parrot to class. Her name was Mona the Parrot, and her feathers looked very cool.
Tonight, we have a Bonfire at the beach. I am looking forward to that. Also, I have finished designing my shirt for COSMOlympics. We spraypainted a big "1" on the front. On the back, I drew an iPod as it consists of many Embedded Systems.
That is all that has been going on so far at COSMOS. I am having a great time, and each day is a different experience. I've made many friends and met lots of new people from all over California. Good night from UCSD.
